Handgun Permit Information

The Washington County Sheriff's Office will be conducting Concealed Handgun Carry Permit Class throughout the year. The classes will start at 9:00AM at the Johnson City Firing Range (a map is provided below) and will last from six to eight hours. Citizens planning to attend will need to bring the following items:

  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection
  • Pencil and paper
  • Fifty rounds of ammunition for your make and model handgun
  • Your own handgun
  • A towel or a holster
  • Drinks and or snacks

Each handgun and the type of ammunition will be inspected prior to use for safety reasons. Do not bring any firearms or ammunition into the classroom until instructed to do so. Do not drive or carry any firearms to the range loaded. It is best to store the handgun and ammunition in separate areas of your vehicle and out of easy reaching distance. The handgun that you bring does not have to be the same as the handgun you are wanting to carry, although it is encouraged to bring that handgun. Participants are encouraged to bring snacks and drinks as we will not break for lunch.

The cost for the class is $40. You should bring this the day of class. Please make any checks payable to Washington County Sheriff's Office.

If you would like to enroll in one of the classes scheduled below, please call (423) 461-1414 or visit the Downtown Center Office during regular hours. You do not have to be a resident of Washington County to enroll.

Check back here or on the events page for dates of upcoming classes.

Once you enter the Water Treatment, follow the driveway through the gate that is marker "Firing Range."
