The Washington County Detention Center Gang Task Force was formed in January 2005 to help identify individuals related to hate groups, terrorist groups, and gang related activities. It is composed of 5 Detention Officers who work closely with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff's Office, to track and report any unusual gang related activities that may be moving through our facility or our county. This is accomplished by officers reporting suspicious tattoos, graffiti and apparel that may identify possible gang members and to what group they may belong to or affiliated with. Through this joint effort, we will be able to decrease the potential gang related problems within our facility and surrounding area.

The Task Force members attend meetings with the Regional Anti-Gang Effort (R.A.G.E.) and share information with the Virginia Gang Members Association, Tennessee gang Investigation and the National Major Gang Task Force. By sharing this information it will enable us to to be more aware of individual groups that are in our surrounding areas.
